COMPETITION COORDINATOR
Position
Description
Responsible for the planning and organizing of all
Area/County or City competitions and offer statewide opportunities
for athletes in compliance with NBG Rules, SOI Rules and SOPA
Polices.
Responsibilities:
I.
Supervise and
appoint the Competition Committee.
A.
Recruit, screen,
and appoint the Sports Committee.
B.
Chair the Sports Committee with the Training
Coordinator.
II.
As Chair of Sports Committee:
A.
Assess
needs of Area/County competitions.
B.
Assess
Area/County athlete profile to determine appropriate sports to
introduce to the Area/County competition schedule with Training
Coordinator.
C.
Work
with Training Coordinator to ensure appropriate training, through
training schools, is established for all coaches.
D.
Develop
a complete schedule of competitions, which is disseminated to
Area/County volunteers and SOPA.
E.
Publicize competition opportunities.
F.
Provide
competitions for all levels (from MATP to Unified).
III.
Secure qualified individuals to serve as Sports
Directors and Games Directors.
A.
Recruit
prospective individuals from professional groups, colleges,
universities and high schools as well as other resources to direct
training and provide competition with each Special Olympic sport,
with assistance from the SOPA Field Director, and with the Volunteer
Coordinator or Training Coordinator when needed.
B.
Recruit,
screen and appoint individuals to serve as Games Directors for
Area/County competitions or multi county competitions in conjunction
with Training Coordinator and the Volunteer Coordinator when needed.
IV.
Establish a Games Management Team and ensure
preparation or coordination for each Area/County competition as
prescribed by SOPA with Games Director.
A.
Ensure
appropriate training, prepare for each aspect of the competition and
evaluate.
B.
Ensure
appropriate training of Games Management Team and Games Director in
cooperation with the Training Coordinator.
C.
Utilize
the “Special Olympics Games and Competition Guide”, appropriate NGB
rules, SOI rules, and take advantage of Games Management Training
when offered.
D.
Ensure
appropriate conduct according to SOPA and SOI rules. Acts as Crisis
Manager when needed.
V. Communicate with SOPA regarding Sports and
competition guidelines.
A.
Complete
the necessary forms and paper work by stated deadline.
B.
Ensure
inherence to National Governing Body, Summer, Fall, and Winter Rules
Book.
C.
Enforce
SOPA Code of Conduct and develop procedures for misconduct.
D.
Communicate and adhere to SOPA Policies regarding SOPA competitions.
E.
Develop
registration materials and ensure results to all necessary parties.
F.
Ensure a
qualified Head of Delegation attends all events.
VI.
Prepares Sports and Competition Budget:
A.
Presents
budgetary needs to manager for approval and incorporation into the
Area/County budget.
B.
Includes
long range budget, and ensures sufficient funds for each
competition.
C.
Follows
proper channels, divides each budget into line items (i.e., food,
facilities, equipment, etc.).
Manages:
The Game
Director, the Competition Committee, and volunteers working with
competition.
