CRIPPLED CHILDREN – READING ELKS HELPING OUT Through our Crippled Children’s Program we at Reading Elks are able to reach out to the citizens of the community who need it. We recently to helped out with a youth in the community named XXXX XXXX. He is a young man with Cerebral Palsey who attends XX School in Reading in the Northwestern area of town. He came to our attention through his Bus Driver, who is our own PER, Robert Prosser. Mr. Prosser noticed when he dropped the youth off that he was unable to ascend the steps to his home, as they were too steep. It was up to the grandfather to carry him up the steps and into the home. Reading Elks decided to help out by working with a local contractor to build a new set of steps tat would be easier to climb.
This is a single case where we have been able to help out. But these types of situations arise in the community often. We presently work with Dr. Zefarino Martinez through the Crippled Kiddies Clinic to help Crippled Children in the community. If you know of anyone who may need our help, it is up to you to get in contact with the lodge.
We also help through our State Project, PA Elks Home Service Nurse Program. Donations that Reading Lodge makes support a home service nurse in the Reading and Lebanon areas to support the needs of Crippled Children. The name of our nurse is Mary Ann Laine, R.N. She can be contacted at 717-274-3493 for referrals. These programs show that in Reading, Elks Care – Elks Share!
