The annual Berks County Special Olympics picnic and awards presentation was held on a very hot Sunday August 5, 2001 at the Mohnton Playground and it was attended by approximately 150 people. This was a sad kind of year because the Special Olympics is losing one of its oldest and finest sponsors in The Berks Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America. An organization formed at the old Western Electric Company which has now become Agere and has over the last 10 years donated to Special Olympics over $50,000 and who without their wonderful help we would have lost alot. Unfortunately because of all the many changes at that company is being disbanded. However on a brighter note there are more and more sponsors coming on board. Below are the 2001 award winners for Special Olympics Berks County.
